Gary Sharpe was a math teacher, physical education instructor and school administrator for 10 ½ years in Missouri and Illinois public schools and taught at a private college for one year. He served in the Missouri House of Representatives for eight years and was chair of the House Elementary and Secondary Education Commission for four years. After working as a self-employed lobbyist for school administrator associations for 3 ½ years, he was named the first Executive Director of the Missouri Council of School Administrators and served in that position for 19 years.
Sharpe received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Northeast State University in Kirksville and his Doctorate in Physical Education from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He is married to Julia Sharpe who recently retired as Assistant Superintendent for the Jefferson City School District and has two stepchildren.
